6-8 Week Commitment. Lifetime of Impact!

Hyland Hills is a member of the National Alliance for Youth Sports. We have implemented the NAYS' program to provide valuable information on the aspects of coaching youth sports, which today's volunteers need to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all the youngsters on their teams.

Ages: 16 and older

Step 2: Complete Background Check

After you submit your volunteer application & signed paperwork, the Hyland Hills Athletics Department will send you a link to complete your background check (no fees for you) through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NSCI).

Background checks are required every two years to volunteer for youth sports.

Step 3: Concussion Training

Every head and assistant coach must complete the National Federation of State High School Associations’ (NFHS) concussion training clinic (or other approved training) before they can coach this season at any capacity. At the completion of the training, you will have a certificate that you can either print out and provide at the coaches meeting or save and email to jhartleben@hylandhills.gov and cgammon@hylandhills.gov.

Instructions on how to complete a FREE online sports concussion training class through the NFHS can be found on the last page of your volunteer coaches' application. There are many other acceptable sports training courses that you can use. Let your Athletics staff contact know if you're already certified through another program.

Concussion training is required once per year to volunteer for youth sports.

Final Step: NAYS Coaches Training & Membership

Hyland Hills is a member of the National Alliance of Youth Sports (NAYS) and requires all volunteer coaches to become members too. Once your training and membership is complete, please make a copy of your membership card for your records and email or provide a copy to the Hyland Hills Athletic Department at jsloter@hylandhills.gov and cgammon@hylandhills.gov.

Instructions on how to complete the online coaches training & membership through NAYS can be found on the last page of your volunteer coaches application.

Fee: $20

Once all steps are completed, Hyland Hills Athletics Department Staff will contact you with more information.

We thank you so much for taking the time to contribute to our community's young athletes!
